에드워드 롤프 터프티 Edward Rolf Tufte (1942년 3월 14일 미주리 출생)는 미국 통계학자이면서 예술가이다. 동시에 예일 대학교에서 3가지 분야의 명예 교수이다. 정치학, 통계학, 컴퓨터 과학. 정보 디자인 관련 저술과 데이터 시각화 분야 개척으로 알려져 있다. 그는 직접 저술하고 디자인하여 데이터 시각화의 고전이라고 불리는 4개의 책을 자신이 소유하고 있는 출판사 Graphics Press를 통해 출판했다. 뉴욕 타임스는 에드워드 터프티를 “데이터의 레오나르도 다 빈치”라고 하였으며, 비즈니스 위크는 “그래픽의 갈릴레오”로 불렀다. Edward Modern 미술관과 스튜디오의 설립자이기도 하다.

1960년 비버리 힐스 고등학교를 졸업했다.
이후 스탠퍼드에서 통계학으로 학사와 석사 학위를(1964년), 1968년 예일 대학교에서 정치학으로 박사학위를 받았다.
1967년부터 1974년까지 프린스턴 대학교에서 Politics와 Public Affairs 관련 강사와 교수로,
1974년부터 1977년까지 우드로우 윌슨 스쿨에서 Public Affairs 교수로,
1977년부터 1999년까지 예일 대학교에서 정치학, 통계학, 컴퓨터 과학, 비평가, 예술 관련 교수로 활동했다.
프린스턴과 예일에서 다음과 같은 과목을 가르쳤다. 정책 결정, 통계적인 삽화, 응용 통계학, 정보 디자인, 정치 경제학, 여론, 민주주의 이론, 연구 방법들, 연구와 저술 관련.

에드워드 터프티는 Graphics Press, LLC의 설립자이면서 소유자이다. 해석적인 디자인 관련 책 4개를 출판했고, 1일 강좌도 한다. 참고로 1983년부터 2014년까지 4개의 책은 약 190만개, 4개의 소책자는 약 42만 2천개가 팔렸고, 이는 현재 진행형이다. “Presenting Data and Information”이라는 1일 강좌를 1993년부터 2014년까지 754번 진행하면서 약 26만 9천명의 학생과 함께하였고, 이 역시 현재 진행형이다.
